Stroke play
Also known as Medal play
The classic. Lowest total wins, gross or net. Winner takes the pot, or settle it stroke by stroke.
- Players
- 2 or more
- Format
- Total strokes
- Best for
- A straight-up test
How it works
- Add up every stroke over the round. Lowest total wins.
- Standings are shown to par, so players at different points in the round compare fairly.
Scoring and stakes
- Winner takes the pot: everyone puts in the stake and the low score takes it, with ties splitting.
- Or per stroke: each player pays the stake per stroke to everyone who beats them.
Handicaps
- Choose net (full course handicap by default) or gross.
- A picked-up hole counts as net double bogey.
Example
- Three players, $10 each in the pot.
- Alex shoots net 70, Mike and You both net 74. Alex takes the $30 pot.
