Hole by hole
Skins
Also known as Scats, Syndicates
Win the hole outright and take the skin. Ties carry forward, so the next hole can mean a little more.
- Players
- 2 or more
- Format
- Hole by hole
- Best for
- Mixed handicaps, big groups
How it works
- Every hole is worth one skin.
- The player with the lowest score on a hole wins the skin, but only if nobody ties them.
- With carryovers on, a tied hole's skin rolls onto the next hole, so skins can stack up until someone wins one outright.
- With carryovers off, a tied hole is pushed and nobody wins that skin.
Scoring and stakes
- Each skin is worth the stake from every other player in the game. With four players and a $2 skin, winning one pays $6.
- Skins still carrying after the last hole go unclaimed.
- Holes only count once everyone in the game has a score.
Handicaps
- Net by default: players get strokes on the hardest holes by stroke index.
- Strokes can be given off the low player, so the best golfer plays scratch and everyone else gets the difference.
- Turn net off for a gross game.
Example
- Holes 1 and 2 are tied, so two skins carry.
- On hole 3, Mike makes the only net birdie and wins three skins.
- At $2 a skin with four players, Mike collects $18: $6 from each of the other three.
