Low Ball / Low Total
Also known as Two-a-hole
Two teams of two, two points every hole: one for the best ball, one for the team total. Both partners count.
- Players
- 4, in two teams
- Format
- Two points every hole
- Best for
- A foursome where both partners matter
How it works
- Split the foursome into two teams of two.
- Low ball: each team's better score on the hole against the other team's. Lower wins 1 point.
- Low total: each team's two scores added together against the other team's. Lower wins 1 point.
- With ties set to carry, a tied point rolls onto the same point on the next hole. With push, nobody wins it.
Scoring and stakes
- Up to 2 points a hole, more when tied points carry.
- The game is one bet: the team with more points at the end wins, and each player on it collects the stake from a player on the other team. Equal points is a push.
- Holes only count once all four players have a score.
Handicaps
- Net or gross. With net on, each player gets their own strokes, so the low total is net plus net.
- Strokes can be given off the low player.
Example
- Mike and Chris make 4 and 6; Dave and Sam make 5 and 5. Mike's 4 wins low ball, but 10 against 10 ties low total.
- With carry on, the next hole's low total is worth 2 points.
- Mike and Chris finish with 20 points to 16. At $10, Dave and Sam each pay $10.
Settings you can change
- Teams
- Two teams of two.
- Net or gross
- Use handicap strokes or not.
- Ties
- Push a tied point, or carry it to the next hole.
- Stake
- What each player on the losing team pays, or 0 to play for points.
